Training and Digital Support
Technology to us at The Local Hand is meant to enable, not overwhelm. Smartphones, tablets, and computers to a lot of us are the lifeline that we utilise to connect, complete our day-to-day tasks, and make life easier — but to learn them is daunting, particularly if you were not exposed to them growing up. That is where we come in.
Our foundation classes are created patiently, in simple language, and in real-life situations. Whether you're being taught how to do a video call to your grandson, send a WhatsApp, or even book a holiday on the internet, we'll guide you step by step until you feel at ease and confident.
Who We Help
Elderly people who wish to keep in touch with family and friends.
Complete novices who are only getting to know smartphones, tablets, or computers.
Anyone who feels left behind by technology and would like a calm, clear introduction.
What You’ll Learn
We focus on practical, real-life tasks that bring instant value:
Staying in Touch
Making and receiving calls on a smartphone.
Sending photos and voice messages via WhatsApp.
Using video calls to see family and friends wherever they are.
Everyday Online Tasks
How to search online safely and find reliable information.
Setting up and using email.
Making holiday bookings (e.g. flights or trains) step by step
Online shopping: from browsing to payment.
Safety & Confidence
Outwitting scams and staying safe online.
Creating secure passwords.
Backing up vital photos and contacts.
How it Works
We will organise a 15 to 20-minute free meeting with the potential participants to determine the training need, level, material and place within the establishment where the training will take place.
Personalised lessons: We tailor the pace to you — no hurry, no techno-babble.
Home one-to-one training: We come to your home and work on your own device or phone so that you learn where you will be using it every day.
Written summarised manuals: Simple instructions to keep and refer back to.
Ongoing support: We're always available if you need a reminder or to learn something new.
Why it Matters
We recognise the importance of remaining connected and independent in later life. Learning to use technology can be:
Getting your granddaughter's smile on a video call.
Managing your own bookings and appointments online
Following your interests, from watching films to looking up family history.
We target at The Local Hand to unlock the digital world, to make it friendly, simple, and stress-free for everyone.
